How to win at keyword bingo.
At the top of most resumes these days you’ll see a heap of words with specialized skills.
The reason for this section is two-fold. First, since resumes typically only get scanned for a few seconds at first glance. It’s important for a human reader to be able to use those keywords as an index for the text of the resume.
Through one quick scan decision makers can infer that examples of those keywords will be found in the body of your resume. It can be a killer for your candidacy if those examples aren’t there. Ideally, they will be achievement-oriented examples of your skills or experiences. The more specific, the better.
Secondly, it builds keyword density. Said differently, the more times a keyword appears in the text of your resume the higher the document’s relevance in computer generated search results (LinkedIn, ATS). Resulting in more eyeballs on your document or LinkedIn profile.
You can make sure there are real-life examples of those keywords embedded in your resume to increase density and act as an index for your reader. Then you’ll be a winner at bingo.
