Multi-Tasking? Resume Red Flag?
Having the phrase multi-tasking somewhere on your resume was practically a rite of passage at one time. Nowadays not only has the term been overused to death it also raises a few questions in the minds of employers, based on scientific research. In a nutshell, what studies have found is that when a person’s attention is divided, neither of the tasks being done is done as accurately or effectively as it would had the tasks been completed independently of one another. This seems to be common sense but the world we live in seems to dictate that we have our attention divided quite often. Maybe those that are best at multi-tasking are the one’s whose work suffers the least while doing so. Any way you slice it though, it appears that “multi-tasking” is no longer a coveted skill by employers and just seems plain tired. Time to take a rest.
