Human Resources Is Not Your Friend.
For the Average job hunter, Human Resources is not your friend. Initially during the candidate search, their primary goal is to eliminate candidates from contention for open positions. I know this sounds counter-intuitive, but really if you just think about it it makes sense. Let’s say company “XYZ” has a job opening and they might receive a hundred or more resumes and applications just for one open position. Multiply that by how many openings a particular company may have and you have 1000’s of applicants. The primary focus of every candidate search is to eliminate as many candidates as possible to narrow the field to just a few. Those few remaining are then sent on to the interview process.
Many times the initial culling takes place by computer which you might hear referred to as ATS or Applicant Tracking System. What ATS will do is begin by narrowing the field by certain search criteria set forth by the employer. To learn more about Applicant Tracking Systems and what you may be up against, you can follow this link https://www.jobscan.co/blog/8-things-you-need-to-know-about-applicant-tracking-systems/
Once you make it past the ATS there are still human eyes that are looking at your resume. Not only must your resume contain the criteria for the advertised opening but it must also look the part. Through visual optimization and fundamental spelling, grammar, tense and punctuation. In order to maximize the percentages for you being one of the few that are able to move on to the interview process you have to make sure all your career documents are fundamentally sound and your online presence coincides with your resume.
